Search engines can now easily index both PDF & .Doc files as if they were HTML - in fact PDF's often rank a lot better than web pages.

Often when taking on a new site, there is a lot of legacy content in many formats. I believe that SEO is an ongoing process and it's better to get all the content out there quickly, and then work on optimizing it, especially with a new website project.

I see the news section is in fact just a collection of pdfs, and the press section a collection of .doc files. How does this in anyway contribute to SEO? What am I missing here?

Looks good. nice and clean.
I did notice that the alt tag for the header image is still "header img" and the natural listing's copy talks about Joomla..pls see below?
